Land of Opportunity

I was driving around the other day (I do some of my best thinking in the car, if you haven’t noticed), and for a time I had this glimmer of what it feels like to operate in a world where everything works out. Where life is working in my favor. Where the Universe ensures eventual alignment and everything makes sense. It was a strange and lovely space to occupy, however brief.

It’s difficult to stay in that place when the news is talking about war in multiple places, when children can get cancer and pass away having hardly lived life at all, when people are screaming at each other in videos on the internet. Where is God or a Universal Good in those circumstances?

I keep coming back to the answer that the reason such things are happening is because Good can no longer be found in a crucial piece of those puzzles. When it comes to cancer, its because we surround ourselves with toxic problems and toxic stress, have to navigate a predatory healthcare system, and then wonder why we are all incredibly ill or just a few steps away from a significant health scare. When it comes to war, far too many people have committed themselves to righteousness or nationality, ignoring the brotherhood of man. When it comes to screaming at each other in videos on the internet, its because our modern media is hell bent on making us more anxious so that we buy more products to feel better, rather than working with and in our communities for one another and the common Good.

Each of these negative expressions of the human experience are not, in my humble opinion, proof that God does not exist. Rather they are proof that we no longer believe in God or a Universal Good, and we are hellbent on ourselves at the expense of each other.

In reality, the fact that a glimmer of some other state of being where everything is good and life works out seems mystical is just sad. That is not the world most of us allow ourselves to live in, nor are we working toward, collectively or as individuals, in part because we don’t know how.

But I firmly believe a better, more mystical life is achievable. I genuinely feel like the more we focus on Good (or if you like, God), the better things will be and the better we will feel. It is a state of being I am working toward, because I actually believe that is the true reality of existence. I believe Good is God, and vice versa, and the Universe is actually a land of opportunity, abundance, peace, and prosperity for all of us, should we choose it for one and all.
